Hévíz

The town was named after the thermal spring, which has a temperature of more than 30°C. Hévíz made its reputation from this healing water and became one of the biggest tourist centre of Southern Transdanubia. The healing effect of the thermal water was well-known by the Romans, too. Since then many of those who want to refresh and cure have visited the town and its lake. Thanks to the year by year growing and developing tourism Hévíz received the title of town in 1992. Since then Hévíz has been continously developing and improving, putting hospitality and tourism forward reflecting the true hospitality of Hungarian people.

A bit farther from the busy town centre of Hévíz, the forest paths surrounding the town provide excellent opportunity for hiking or biking. But do not forget about the winecellars of Egregy vineyard and the vine-growers' hospitality. They await with open arms all the visitors, who want to taste the result of the thousands-year-old tradition based vine-culture. The lovers of history can go for a trip to the medieval church from the Árpád age, located in Egregy. If you are there, call at the Öreg Harang (Old Bell) restaurant, where you can enjoy Hungarian food specialities and home-made wines. Egregy preserved its original rural atmosphere and image.
